Time and Goodbyes

Tis study hall again. It's the last day that she will have computers out in class, so I may have to actually find time to post stuff outside of this hour of nothingness that I endure everyday. Which leads me to today's topic: time management.

Like I said yesterday, (two days of blogging in a row, I'm on a role!) it's the end of the year. I was thinking about my relationships with the people around me and the fact that I want to leave a lasting legacy. Which brought me to this question, how much time do I really have left? More importantly, how am i going to spend that time.

Here's what my research has shown. Its around 11 o'clock A.M. on Friday May 7th. In exactly 2 years from today, it will be my last day of school, assuming they don't move the last day for seniors around too much. I have 17,523 hours left to live in my high school career. When I'm done typing this, I will have about 17,522 hours left. That seems like a lot of time, but the first two years have flown by really quickly without a whole lot of stuff to leave behind.

So this is a time for setting new goals, new heights to be reached, and overall a new attitude about life and high school. When you think about it, you aren't really granted any hours. There is no guarantee that I'll make it to 12 P.M. today. All the more reason to live for today and to make the most of every minute.

Should I join new clubs next year? Should I try to branch out with my friends? I just auditioned for a student run play this year. It went bad. I forgot all the words to the song I was trying to sing and definitely screwed up the chorus. Then on the acting, I had my butt to the audience most of the time, and I wasn't even at center-stage. But oh well. The point is to try something new and get involved with other things.

I'm in Newspaper and Soccer this year as well as joining Beta Club and Quill and Scroll. I'm thinking about adding theater, and Key Club to that list next year, but I think I need more things to get involved in. I will be moved up to a section editor next year, so that will be another thing that will be more involved than this year.

Time is a precious thing. It's one of the few things that I really own and can do whatever I want with. It's powerful. It's also doubled-edged. It can cut me down just as easily as it builds me up. How will I use my time over the summer and outside of school. I'll be able to help with the Junior High Ministry at my church next year. That will be an amazing growing experience for me.

That's what I need to keep in mind though. I say this time belongs to me, but really it doesn't. I'm a steward of the time God gave me. How will I use it to bring glory to Him. That's why He gave it to me. I'm blessed with so much. I need to learn to use it in ways that will ultimately bring together people and make me a light to the world.

Lastly, I want to end by thanking the seniors that I met this year. All of you were amazing.

Lindsay Rife, you have inspired me to start writing this blog. You've been an inspiration in a million different ways with your hard work and determination.

Ashton Duncan, you have inspired me with your amazing ability to relate to everyone in the world and make everyone feel better about themselves and about the world. You are truly a light to me.

There's also Robin Swihart, who's determination and will are relentless. I thank you for being strong when no one else wanted to be.

And Sam, thanks for the laughs. Thanks for letting me know in the best possible way not to take myself or life to seriously.

Katie Cahill, thanks for teaching me most of what I know about how to make a spread, and thanks for putting up with my crap all year long.

Thanks, class of 2010. You guys were awesome, and I'm gonna miss you.

It's Study Hall

So it's study hall, and I'm a little bored. I honestly don't have many profound thoughts to face the world with right now. But I do have this: tis the end of the school year.

Today is the last day for many seniors here, and I'm kind of sad about that. I know a lot of the seniors this year, so it's going to be hard to say goodbye. This is the first time that I've had to say goodbye to a group of seniors that I actually knew well.

I'm reminded that I have a legacy that I'm going to leave behind here. Most of the seniors I know have left a really good legacy for me to remember them by. So it begs the question, what legacy am I leaving to the classes behind me.

I am only a sophomore right now, so I really haven't much of a chance to leave a legacy. In fact, I didn't know pretty much any of this year's seniors until this year. So I have time. It's still food for thought though.

Senior Ashton Duncan is writing a speech for some end of the year ceremony, it may even be graduation; I honestly don't know. But I was reading her notes, and one of the things she said struck me. She said, I've always tried to build relationships in high school. One I did that was by always trying to leave people feeling better than they were before they started talking to me,
or something like that.

Anyways, the bell is about to ring. Maybe I should adopt that mentality. Sorry for not writing for so long. Thank you.

I Am,

Hi.
I'm Keegan.
I guarantee you that no one will follow this blog for like 50 posts.
I kinda like it that way.I'm making an executive decision right now.I'm gonna start every new line with I.
I kinda like that idea.
I'm starting a blog becauseI like writing. So here's my story.

I am a sophomore.
I'm in Newspaper and
I'm training to take over a section next year and be a section editor.
I want the opinion section.
I love opinions; sort of why I am writing a blog.

I am deeply profound, and the most shallow person you'll ever meet.
I am both at the same time.
I like patterns, so i like math.
I think about the future.
I don't think about the past.
I have way to much pride.
I'm a jerk.
I'm Keegan Mattox.
